First Bank sponsored HomeFront’s Wonderful Wednesday with Camp Mercer this week!
HomeFront, an organization that aims to break the cycle of poverty and end homelessness in Central New Jersey, serves thousands of Mercer County families and also operates Camp Mercer, which serves families with campers aged 5 – 14. For this Wonderful Wednesday, First Bank provided activities and a pizza party lunch for 50 campers and 20 volunteer camp counselors. The highlight of the day was the afternoon of fun bank-themed activities prepared by the First Bank employees – all of which were enjoyed by campers and bank volunteers alike.
Four camp activities were planned to incorporate a financial literacy or banking lesson to empower the campers’ financial capabilities. Activities included “Bankers and You Bingo”, a water relay game, piggy bank painting, and a soccer game, all which had financial lessons attached to them! Each camper was also provided a “debit card”, and as they participated in the activities throughout the afternoon, they were awarded “debit card funds” in the form of stickers for winning or showing good participation. At the end of the fun afternoon, they were able to use their “debit cards” to purchase treats and toys at the redemption table. Campers were also awarded to visit the First Bank face painter by participating appropriately at each activity.
